Boomer Generation Radio 11/24/2015: Kate Clark of the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging

On the November 24, 2015 edition of Boomer Generation Radio, the guests are Kate Clark from the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging and Lisette Sartras, who discusses aging issues in the Latino community.

Kate Clark is the Planner for Policy and Program Development at the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, the fourth largest Area Agency for Aging in the nation. Kate discusses a wide range of topics, including:

  • Age-friendly Philadelphia—An award-winning agenda initiated by Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) to help older adults remain healthy, active and engaged in their communities for as long as possible.
  • GenPhilly—A nationally award-winning network of more than 400 emerging leaders acting as aging ambassadors by incorporating the needs of older adults into their work. This includes a wide range of disciplines, such as urban planning, the arts, social work, government, philanthropy and more. Together, they create professional development opportunities that tap into popular culture, break down existing stereotypes, and make this topic intriguing and hip.
  • The Atlantic Philanthropies Health and Aging Policy Fellowship with the Office of the Surgeon General—Aging and public health organizations share many related goals, but have not traditionally worked closely together.  In the context of today’s growing aging population and shrinking public resources, it is more important than ever to identify ways to leverage and align efforts across these two disciplines.

Kate ClarkFrom 2013-15 Kate Clark was a fellow in the Office of the Surgeon General and worked on looking at the intersection between aging and the the 2011 National Prevention Strategy, a public health document that serves as the nation’s road map to better health and wellness (created through the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act).

Boomer Generation Radio is sponsored in part by Kendal Corporation, a Quaker-based provider of continuing care retirement communities in the Northeast and Midwest, airs on WWDB-AM 860 every Tuesday at 10 a.m., and features news and conversation aimed at Baby Boomers and the issues facing them as members of what Rabbi Address calls “the club sandwich generation.” You can hear the show live on AM 860, or streamed live from the WWDB website.
