I am not Jewish but I would say that thoughtful members of the Western ‘boomer generation’ will often turn their thoughts to spirituality, even if the lack the religious convictions of their forebears. Often times we realise that worldly success or materialism means nothing in the light of eternity or final extinction of our being.
So much depends on what we were taught in our formative years and the examples set by our parents. This is where the Jewish community benefits from Torah and tradition, and why many of us non Jews envy that sense of family and continuity.
