About the Guests
Rabbi Elana Kanter serves as the Director of the Women’s Jewish Learning Center and its Women’s Leadership Institute. Rabbi Kanter received her B.A. in English Literature from Barnard College in 1982. She was a member of the first class of women of the Jewish Theological Seminary’s Rabbinical School, where she was ordained in 1989. Before devoting herself full-time to women’s learning and leadership, Rabbi Kanter worked with Jewish day schools across the United States for 25 years, as a teacher, administrator and consultant. In 1998, Rabbi Kanter received the Covenant Award for Exceptional Jewish Educators. In addition to her work with The Women’s Jewish Learning Center, Rabbi Kanter serves as co-Rabbi of The New Shul in Scottsdale.
Harriet Rosen has worked with Rabbi Elana Kanter over the past eight years in building the Women’s Jewish Learning Center and helped initiate and develop its Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI) in cooperation with PJ Library of Phoenix. The year-long Leadership program has trained three cohorts with a fourth group starting in late August 2018. 30 women strong, the program has launched 27 community projects and WLI’s program will be piloted in three cities in 2019-2020. As a member of the URJ North American Board, Rosen served as Jewish Family Concerns Committee’s member and then as its chair. She and partner created R/J Communications providing writing seminars to financial and technical businesses.
